UNDER 14 BOYS

Additional skills to previous years are:

• Line out jumping (no lifting),
• Goal kicking,
• Kicking for territory from a penalty.

Training takes place Sunday’s from 10:00 until 12:00 – unless there’s a match – and Tuesday’s from 18:00 until  19:30 on the roadside pitch at Bridport Leisure Centre.

It is a 15-a-side game, like the senior level.

Matches are played on a full size pitch with 25 minute halves with a maximum of 80 minutes a day allowed.

Scrums have eight players from each side and the maximum drive distance allowed is 1.5 metres. The Number 8 can pick and go from the base.

Lineouts are uncontested and there is no lifting.

Kicking at goal and kicking for territory are permitted.

Friendlies

The season is mostly made up of friendly games with local teams from Dorset and Wiltshire because of our location we do also play teams from Devon and Somerset.

Dorset and Wiltshire Cup Knock-out Tournaments

Teams are drawn randomly to play each other. This year we played four matches.

Some games can be in Wiltshire, which is a bit further to travel than normal, but In our experience has been a great day out. It is also enjoyable to host these games and show off our great clubhouse and hospitality.

Tours

Everyone loves a rugby tour! At Bridport we are in the enviable position of being on the seaside – everyone wants to tour here. This year we host three teams from Wiltshire, Wales and France.

We are also twinned with Lege-Cap-Feret, a club near Bordeaux, France. On 19th April 2024 we look forward to hosting them. This year the Under 14’s have the privilege, of being the showcase game for the tour. The players first club international. They will be representing not only their club and county, but also to some extent their country. Lucky lads!

In turn, we are looking forward to touring Lege-Cap-Feret in April 2025, even luckier lads!

Development Player Pathway (DPP)

Bridport and the other teams in Dorset and Wiltshire, are attached to Bath Rugby from the under 14’s onward.

All coaches who think they have a rugby star are able to put their players forwards for assessment with the Bath coaches. Competition is fierce, there are three assessments a year. This can lead, for a few, to the Bath Academy. and ultimately a career in Rugby. It could all start here.

New players are always enthusiastically welcomed and are encouraged to attend a couple of training sessions before any commitment is made to be sure they enjoy the game. The start of the season is a great time to learn the new skills for each age-group and get to know team-mates but new faces later in the season are just as welcome. Half Registration fees apply for players joining after Christmas.

Subscription fees must be paid at the start of the season or within the trial period for new players.
